The Swedish Pharmaceutical Association

All qualified pharmacists with a Master of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree are eligible for membership in the Swedish Pharmaceutical Association. Membership may also be granted to other persons whose university training comprises at least 120 credit points and includes pharmaceutical core subjects such as Galenic pharmacy, biopharmacy, pharmacotherapy and/or pharmaceutical chemistry.

The Swedish Pharmaceutical Associations primary task is to safeguard the professional and occupational interests of the pharmaceutical profession. We are a non-profit organisation with no party affiliations. Established in 1903, our association has approximately 7,500 members, and our membership thus includes almost 80% of Swedish pharmacists. This gives us both the strength and much credibility to pursue professional issues. We provide guidance and support to our members throughout their careers and strengthen the professional position of pharmacists. Membership also gives members an opportunity to make new contacts and exchange experiences with other professionally active pharmacists.

Our Mission
On the basis of a common set of values arising out of its members’ training, knowledge and skills, the Swedish Pharmaceutical Association must pursue issues of importance to the exercise of the profession and employment conditions and work to ensure that the provision of pharmaceuticals is suitable, of high quality and beneficial to the individual.

The Swedish Pharmaceutical Association is an organisation for everyone with a university degree with a pharmaceutical focus, regardless of the area in which they work. Asserting the pharmaceutical profession, its development and its position in society is of fundamental importance and is closely associated with issues relating to pay and other working conditions.

Organisation
Our membership organisation is divided into the following sections: Retail Pharmacy Section 67%, Industry Section 13%, Public Service Section (i.e. government agencies, county councils/hospitals, municipalities) 4.5%. Approximately 15% of our members are students belonging to the Student Section. The association also has a section for owner-managers (approx. 0.5% of members) which we hope will grow over time. The Swedish Pharmaceutical Association is affiliated with Saco, the Swedish Confederation of Professional Association. Saco is the umbrella organisation for all professionally organised university graduates. In total, Saco has more than 500,000 members.
